Research Intern
About the role
Nox Medical, a global leader in sleep diagnostic technology, invites applications from talented and motivated students for an 12-15 month paid internship opportunity onsite within our dedicated Research Team in Reykjavik.
We are seeking exceptional individuals nearing completion of their degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields to join us on this challenging and rewarding journey. This isn't just an internship; it's a chance to contribute meaningfully to cutting-edge projects alongside leading scientists and experts in sleep science.
What you'll do
As a Research Intern, you will be an integral part of our newly established Research Team, focusing on high-risk, high-reward innovative projects. You will dive into fast-paced applied industrial research, which may change sleep medicine.
Your work will involve:
-
Developing and evaluating AI/Machine Learning models (including Deep Learning, CNNs, ResNets, optimization, clustering, etc.) for medical and non-medical device prototypes aimed at diagnostics, risk assessment, or treatment selection.
-
Processing and analyzing physiological time-series data (EEG, ECG, breathing signals, etc.) from sleep studies.
-
Implementing custom calculations, statistics, and analyses to support research collaborations.
-
Contributing to the writing of scientific publications, posters, white papers, and other dissemination materials.
-
Supporting the continuous development and capability enhancement of our high-performing research team.
Qualifications
We believe exceptional talent comes in many forms. You might be brimming with confidence, or perhaps you're quieter but possess a deep curiosity and strong analytical skills. If you have a solid foundation and a drive to learn, we want to hear from you.
-
Education: Currently finishing your degree in Computer Science, Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Biomedical, Software), Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field.
-
Core Skills: A solid foundation in at least one of Computer Science (algorithms, data structures), Mathematics (linear algebra, statistics, calculus), Time series analysis (signal processing, modelling and simulation). Crucially, you must possess a strong interest and aptitude for developing skills in the areas where you have less experience.
-
Mindset: You are solution-oriented, creative, and highly motivated. You thrive on challenges and are eager to learn new concepts and technologies independently by reading scientific literature, exploring documentation, and seeking knowledge.
-
Teamwork & Communication: You value collaboration and work effectively within a diverse and close-knit team. You communicate openly and consistently, sharing progress, challenges, and learnings along the way. You see feedback as a natural part of growth and continuous improvement.
-
Tech Aptitude: While expertise isn't expected upon arrival, you must have the ability and drive to quickly learn and utilize our tech stack, primarily Python with Numpy, Scipy, TensorFlow, and Keras. Familiarity with AWS is a plus.
Why Join Nox Medical's Research Team?
-
Real Impact: Contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of sleep diagnostics and improve lives.
-
Learn from the Best: Work directly alongside and be mentored by internationally recognized scientists and engineers in a supportive environment.
-
Cutting-Edge Technology: Gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques and large, complex datasets.
-
Develop Your Skills: This is an unparalleled opportunity to rapidly develop both technical and research skills in a fast-paced, applied setting.
-
Scientific Contribution: Potentially co-author scientific publications and present findings.
-
Supportive Culture: We work hard and fast, but we foster a culture of knowledge sharing, mutual support, and continuous learning. We value potential and curiosity as much as existing expertise.
