Project Electrical Engineer - Iceland

Verne is looking for a suitably qualified site-based Project Electrical Engineer to provide expert installation and construction guidance on a data centre construction project in Finland. Requiring daily presence on-site to ensure the selected Main Contractor complies with the Employer's Scope of Works and all applicable codes and standards. It will involve, though not limited to, the promotion and continuous development of best practices, assistance in the generation of site required construction information, review of Contractors installation and quality documentation, participation in any investigations and reporting to the Corporate Engineering Manager on any design or engineering issues. The role will also require the fostering of a best practice culture for safety and quality among all project stakeholders.

The primary purpose of this role is the Project Engineer will manage and control the Main Contractors Scope of Works, specific to Electrical Installation and Construction. There will be a primary focus on safety in all aspects of their work. 

 The role will include but is not limited to: 

  • Plan the works with the Main Contractor to ensure maximum efficiency and adherence to the Project Programme. 
  • Maximise productivity by explicit direction and control of the Main Contractor and its resources. 
  • Responsibility to review and work with the Main Contractors engineering partners that are involved in executing the project to ensure minimal installation disruption. 
  • Maintain awareness of the commercial position of the project at all times, ensuring the appropriate and timely management of any delay/disruption and variation issues as it relates to the Electrical Scope of Works.  
  • Advise relevant senior management of any issues that may have a significant commercial impact on the project as soon as they become evident. 
  • Manage safety on the project, ensuring compliance with all legal and company procedures, and promoting a positive and proactive attitude to working safely at all levels. 
  • Working according to the company’s ISO quality systems, ensuring all Project Engineering and construction activities meet the requirements of the project, including all appropriate specifications. 
  • Ensure the correct production and appropriate filling of all project documentation. 
  • Oversee the Main Contractors resources both onsite and offsite (where applicable), ensuring the submittal of documentation as minimum following the projects contractual requirements. 
  • Compile and issue all necessary weekly/monthly reports in line with company procedures. 
  • Oversee the Main Contractors construction supervision, engineering and labour force in such a manner that, supports completion to the company’s satisfaction and targets. 
  • Instigate any necessary action required to protect the company’s commercial interests in cases where challenges occur throughout a project.  
  • Act as an ambassador for the company, always presenting the right image to existing and potential clients and assist all senior management within the company to achieve enhanced commercial success across all divisions. 
  • Will not compromise safety or quality for schedule. The Project Engineer will utilise the experience of the wider Company as and when required. 
  • Must support the development of all project safety documentation/plans and support their implementation, including audits and toolbox talks. 
  • Reporting internally and externally must be completed on time. 
  • Ensure adherence to all company statutory financial controls and procedures, and any project-specific procedures. The Project Engineer must discuss any changes necessary to the management team or any restructuring with his/her direct manager. 
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of site construction audits, inspections, risk assessments, training sessions, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance documentation for both client and regulatory purposes. Have a daily electronic log of all construction and installation activities, 
  • Foster close working relationships with contractors, subcontractors, project managers and other stakeholders, ensure that health and safety practices are understood, adopted, and followed consistently and integrated into all phases of construction across the site.

  • Experienced Electrical Project Engineer – With a least 10yrs experience on large projects - essential 
  • Engineering Degree BSc or equivalent - essential 
  • CPD portfolio 
  • Safety Certification from an EU or UK Statutory Agency - essential 
  • Safety training, manual handling, abrasive wheels, working at height, confined space - preferred but not essential 
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft packages, especially within Excel and Word 
  • 3D Modelling understanding and navigational skills 
  • Working knowledge of Project engineering in construction and engineering 
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Icelandic is highly advantageous.
