Data Engineer & BI Platform Owner at atNorth

We are building a modern, enterprise‑grade BI and analytics platform on Microsoft Fabric — and we’re looking for a Data Engineer & BI Platform Owner to lead the next phase of its maturity. You will guide the transition from an external implementation partner to full internal ownership, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, high‑quality, and AI‑ready. This role blends data engineering, BI architecture, platform stewardship, and advanced analytics with a strong focus on data integrity and trust.

The role can be based in Reykjavik, Copenhagen, Stockholm, or Helsinki.

Key responsibilities:

Platform ownership & transition

  • Lead the handover from the external implementation partner

  • Become the primary internal expert and own the Microsoft Fabric BI platform

  • Ensure the platform is robust, secure, scalable, and well‑documented

  • Define and maintain architectural standards, data contracts, and best practices

Data ingestion & orchestration

  • Own and develop Fabric Data Factory pipelines and ingestion patterns (full, incremental/CDC, event‑based, append‑only)

  • Parameterize pipelines for dev/test/prod and historical backfills

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data flows

Data engineering, transformation & analytics

  • Build and maintain PySpark / Spark SQL notebooks

  • Implement and evolve a medallion architecture

  • Apply business rules, transformations, and feature engineering

Data quality, integrity & trust

  • Own data quality and integrity across the platform

  • Implement validation, reconciliation, and anomaly‑detection checks

  • Ensure consistent business definitions across pipelines and models

  • Investigate issues and perform root‑cause analysis

Serving data to BI, SQL & AI consumers

  • Design and maintain Semantic Models (measures, relationships, RLS, Direct Lake)

  • Enable Power BI reporting and self‑service analytics

  • Support SQL‑first users via Fabric SQL Endpoints

  • Build AI‑ and ML‑ready datasets with clear semantics and strong metadata

DevOps, governance & security

  • Manage Git integration and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps)

  • Support governance, access control, and compliance

Your profile:

We hope you have

  • Strong experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or BI Engineer

  • Proven ability to own and operate a data or BI platform

  • Hands‑on expertise with Microsoft Fabric, or strong experience with Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Spark/Delta Lake

  • Strong SQL and data modelling skills

  • Demonstrated focus on data quality, correctness, and analytical integrity

Nice to have

  • Experience working across data engineering and data science scopes

  • Experience transitioning work from or collaborating with external vendors

  • Familiarity with AI‑driven analytics, Copilot scenarios, or ML consumers

  • Experience with Tabular Editor and advanced semantic modelling

  • Understanding of governance, lineage, and observability frameworks
