Data Engineer
Sport matters!
Abler is building the next-generation sports management platform, a unified system that helps clubs, coaches, and players manage training, communication, and performance data in one place.
We empower sports organizations to focus on what truly matters: developing people and communities through sport.
We’re a fast-growing SaaS company evolving into an AI-first organization, where data is at the heart of everything we do.
Our team of 30+ diverse individuals thrives on innovation, challenges, and collective impact. Backed by exceptional investors and a proven domestic track record, we’re now expanding internationally.
Our spacious Reykjavík offices at Höfðabakki 9c foster a collaborative, high-energy environment, complete with all the tools you need, healthy snacks, and organized regular events and team activities.
The role
We’re looking for a Data Engineer to take ownership of Abler’s data infrastructure, ensuring every team and product can make confident, data-driven decisions.
This is not a reporting or dashboard-only role. You’ll design, build, and scale our data platform, integrating sources, transforming data, and shaping the foundation for AI-powered analytics and automation.
You’ll collaborate with engineering, product, and data science teams to make data accessible, reliable, and actionable, both internally and within our user-facing SaaS platform.
What you’ll do
-
Build and maintain reliable data pipelines and transformation models (SQL, Dataform/dbt) turning raw data into clear business metrics
-
Develop and maintain our data warehouse (BigQuery), ensuring scalability and performance across the stack
-
Design and implement the analytics and metrics layer, ensuring consistent metric definitions for both internal BI (Metabase, Looker Studio) and AI-powered tools
-
Collaborate with product and engineering to embed data and insights directly into Abler’s platform, turning data into user-visible features
-
Drive data governance, documentation, and observability, and explore how LLMs and agents can automate data analysis and monitoring
-
Work closely with leadership to evolve our AI-driven data strategy as Abler scales internationally
You might be a great fit if you
-
Have 2+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or Analytics Engineer
-
Are fluent in SQL and comfortable with transformation frameworks like dbt or Dataform
-
Have experience with modern data stacks (BigQuery, Airbyte/Fivetran, Metabase, Mixpanel, etc.)
-
Understand data modeling and metrics layer design for consistent, modular reporting
-
Are proactive, curious, and detail-oriented — with a builder’s mindset and ownership mentality
-
Enjoy working cross-functionally and can translate complex data problems into actionable solutions
-
Are excited about LLMs, agents, and automation — and how they can transform analytics and operations
-
Bonus: experience with backend programming (e.g. Node.js, Python, or TypeScript) to integrate data services, APIs, or automate data ingestion
What we value
At Abler, we care deeply about mindset as much as skillset.
We believe that a growth mindset and dedication to excellence are the true drivers of long-term success. The right mindset fuels learning, innovation, and resilience, empowering you to move fast, break new ground, and inspire those around you.
We’re not looking for someone seeking a “comfortable” job. We’re looking for someone who wants to make a real impact, embraces challenges, and is passionate about building something meaningful in the world of sports.
