Power Portfolio Owner

We are seeking a commercially minded power-sector professional to lead the sourcing and management of power for Borealis. The role requires a strong practical understanding of the Icelandic power system and the wider Nordic market, including power production, transmission and distribution, utilities, regulation, grid capacity and the commercial structures used to secure long-term power. The person will ensure that Borealis secures the right power, on the right terms, and actively manages the resulting commitments and risks.

The person will report to the CFO and is part of the leadership team.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and own the company’s power-sourcing and power-management strategy.

  • Lead negotiations with power producers, transmission system operators (TSOs) and distribution system operators (DSOs), and manage the resulting agreements and obligations.

  • Maintain a clear portfolio view of power contracts, committed and available capacity, consumption, exposure, key dates and future requirements across all sites.

  • Assess power availability, generation and grid constraints, transmission and distribution requirements, pricing, regulation, contractual terms and commercial risk across Iceland and the Nordics.

  • Negotiate and manage power purchase agreements (PPAs) and related arrangements, including capacity commitments, take-or-pay obligations, minimum volumes, ramp-up profiles, price adjustment mechanisms, curtailment, imbalance exposure, credit support and termination rights.

  • Maintain strong working relationships across the power sector, including producers, utilities, TSOs, DSOs, regulators, municipalities and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Monitor developments in the Icelandic and Nordic power markets.

  • Translate market developments and system constraints into clear recommendations, opportunities and actions for Borealis.

  • Provide clear and accurate information on power availability, connection timelines, pricing, contractual commitments and market conditions to the commercial, development, finance, operations and executive teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5–10+ years’ relevant experience in the power sector, utilities, infrastructure or a major energy-intensive business.

  • Deep, practical knowledge of the Icelandic power landscape, including production, transmission, distribution, utilities, regulation, grid connections and capacity allocation.

  • Knowledge of the wider Nordic power market is an advantage.

  • A strong professional network within the Icelandic power sector is a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and managing PPAs or similar long-term power contracts, including take-or-pay and other volume, price and credit commitments.

  • Knowledge of relevant energy laws, regulations and contractual frameworks.

  • Ability to explain technical, regulatory and contractual power matters clearly to non-specialists

  • Ability to drive cross-functional work across commercial, finance, development, legal and operations in an international environment
