

Laboratory Technician at Oculis
The Laboratory Technician supports the day-to-day operation of the Oculis laboratory. This role contributes to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment, enabling scientists and researchers to carry out experimental work efficiently.
Working under the guidance of more experienced team members, the Laboratory Technician provides operational and logistical support across laboratory activities, including basic upkeep, inventory handling, and preparation tasks. The role is well-suited for an early-career individual looking to develop practical laboratory skills within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Upkeep
- Support the day-to-day running of the laboratory by assisting in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment
- Perform routine cleaning and organization of workspaces, under guidance
- Assist with proper storage of reagents and materials according to established procedures
- Support laboratory waste handling in compliance with safety guidelines
- Help ensure laboratory consumables are stocked and available
Inventory & Materials Management
- Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory of reagents, consumables, and materials
- Monitor stock levels and inform responsible team members when replenishment is needed
- Support ordering activities and receiving of laboratory materials
- Ensure proper labeling and storage of incoming materials
- Help maintain inventory records and tracking systems
Equipment & Infrastructure
- Assist with basic equipment checks and routine maintenance tasks
- Report equipment issues or malfunctions to responsible personnel
- Support coordination of servicing and repairs as needed
- Help ensure equipment is available and ready for use
Logistics & Shipments
- Support coordination of incoming and outgoing shipments of laboratory materials
- Assist in preparing materials for shipment in accordance with procedures
- Help track shipments and maintain related documentation
Experimental Support
- Provide basic hands-on support for experimental activities, such as preparing reagents, materials, and simple setups
- Assist scientists with routine laboratory tasks and protocol preparation
- Ensure materials and equipment are prepared ahead of experiments as instructed
- Support accurate and timely documentation of laboratory activities
Documentation & Compliance
- Assist in maintaining laboratory documentation to ensure records are complete and organized
- Support implementation of laboratory procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Follow established safety guidelines and internal quality standards
- Contribute to maintaining a compliant and well-organized laboratory environment
Experience
- Previous experience working in a highly controlled environment desirable.
Skills
- Good organizational skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and efficient laboratory environment
- Ability to coordinate logistics such as ordering, shipments, and inventory management
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with scientists and cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and willingness to learn laboratory management systems
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory setting
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus
Education
- Bachelor’s degree desired but not essential.
