

Embassy of Japan in Iceland - Butler & Driver
The Embassy of Japan in Iceland is recruiting one local staff member as follows.
Interested applicants should submit the required documents by mail to the address listed in Section 9 below, or deliver them directly to the Embassy, by Friday, March 27.
1. Job Description
Description of primary duties
- Butler duties at the Ambassador's residence (waitering, receiving and serving guests, managing food and beverage inventory and purchasing, etc.)
- Maintenance and management of facilities and equipment within the residence
- Driving embassy vehicles
- Various research, coordination, and event support tasks as assigned by the Embassy
- Note: The role does not involve cooking.
2. Working days and hours
- Five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch break 12:00 to 13:00.
- Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays. National holidays are based on separate regulations established by the Embassy.
- Overtime work and working on holidays may be required.
3. Qualifications
- Hospitality and waitering experience in hotels or restaurants is very desirable
- Individuals with permanent residency and work authorization in Iceland
- Proficiency in English and Icelandic
- Individuals capable of general computer operations.
- Ability to perform duties as part of a team
- Holders of a standard driver's license
- Experience or knowledge in construction, maintenance or electrical fields is an advantage
4. Disqualifying Factors (Applicants meeting any of the following criteria are ineligible.)

Individuals who have been sentenced to imprisonment or a heavier penalty and have not completed the sentence or had the sentence lifted.

Individuals who have been dismissed from employment due to disciplinary action and for whom two years have not passed since the date of said dismissal.

Individuals who have been subject to a compulsory deportation order from Japan or have been refused entry into Japan.
5. Required documents: The documents may be submitted in any format.

- Copy of identification document (e.g., passport)
- Copy of resident registration certificate or equivalent document
- Documentation confirming eligibility for permanent residence and employment in Iceland, if applicable. (Not required for Icelandic nationals)

10. Selection Method and timeline
- First selection (document screening): Candidates who pass the screening will be notified by early April.
- Second selection (Interview): Conducted early to middle of April

- All submitted documents will not be returned regardless of selection outcome.
- When submitting required documents, please write "Resume Enclosed" in red ink on the envelope.
- If submitting documents in person at the Embassy, please inform the receptionist to call the Administration Section staff member and do not hand them directly to the receptionist.

Furthermore, except as required by law or regulation, personal information will not be provided to third parties without prior consent.
- If you are formally hired, you may be required to submit additional documents.
National holidays are based on separate regulations established by the Embassy. These may include both Icelandic and Japanese holidays.
