Back End / Fullstack Engineer

Abler is looking for a Back End / Fullstack Engineer to join us on our mission to build the operating system for sport.

Sport brings people together. It helps children stay active, supports volunteers and coaches, and strengthens communities.

Our platform helps clubs and organisations manage memberships, payments, events, communication, attendance, access control, reporting and more. We are already trusted in our home market and have growing international momentum, including work with Premier League club foundations and other ambitious sports organisations abroad.

As a Back End / Fullstack Engineer, you will help develop, maintain and scale the systems behind Abler. You will work closely with our CTO, product managers and engineering team to build robust APIs, scalable services, reliable databases, and product features that support thousands of users across the sports ecosystem.

What you will work on

• Build and maintain scalable, secure and high-performance services using Node.js.

• Develop and improve APIs, including REST and GraphQL.

• Design, implement and optimise database schemas and queries.

• Contribute to fullstack product development when needed.

• Write clean, maintainable and testable code.

• Improve system performance, reliability and scalability.

• Debug and resolve issues in a practical and timely manner.

• Work closely with product and design to turn ideas into valuable features.

• Use modern tools, including AI-assisted development, to move faster, learn faster and build better.

• Help us stay ahead of the curve by exploring new ways to build, test and ship product improvements.

• Help improve our engineering practices, architecture and developer experience.

What we are looking for

• An AI ambitious developer who is curious about new tools, fast to experiment, and excited about using technology to increase speed, quality and impact.

• 3+ years of experience in back end or fullstack development.

• Experience with Node.js.

• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.

• Strong understanding of API design and development.

• Good understanding of software architecture and design patterns.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good communication and collaboration skills.

• Interest in building products that create real value for users.

Nice to have:

• Experience with GCP or other cloud platforms.

• Experience with React, TypeScript or GraphQL.

• Experience scaling SaaS products.

• Interest in sport, clubs, communities or data.

• Strong feelings about naming things properly, but not so strong that meetings become therapy.
